Healthy Snack Ideas
Unhealthy foods cause premature againg! Being a 29 years old, and single, I want to delay aging as much as possible. Thank God, because he is always handy when I need good ideas. I think he has given me a few very great ideas for healthy snack lately.
I get a little addicted to unhealthy snack from time to time. For example, every now and then I would start drinking a can of coke a day for 2 month, and then suddenly woke up and cut that off for good.
Recently I got into the habit of eating a sugary sandwish and a cup of milk tea (Hong Kong style tea time) in the late afternoon everyday or two for the last few month. I knew it was bad for my body. It would definitely add oxidative stress to my cell and cause them to age faster. I don’t want to look my age. I want to still look like an early 20s.
Fortunately, I still don’t have a fatty belly. A lot of people in my age do. According to research, a fatty belly indicate insulin resistance. You don’t have to have a full blown diabetes or pre-diabetes to be insulin resistant. As soon as there is sign of obesity, it indicates that there is insulin resistant. When the cell start resisting insulin, aging accelerates. You may go to drhyman.com, the medical website that I endorse, to investigate further on that.
We don’t have to look our ages, because most people with mordern lifestyle actually look older than they need to.
So what snack would be good for our bodies?
I found out that a can of sardine fishes is a good snack. It provides rich Omega 3 fats and protein. Who would have thought that canned food can be healthy? If you are hungry and too lazy to prepare a full meal, a small can of sardine can fill the stomach, and it’s delicious too.
And there are seeds. I went to superstore and buy a bag of nuts and seeds. I spent about a dollar and bought more than I need for a snack portion.
To replace my addiction to the sugary sandwish, I bought a loaf of rye bread. Rye bread is quite hard, but after steaming it with water, it becomes fine. I put real butter and organic honey on it. It tastes just as good as the sugary sandwish (they put condensed, sugary milk on white toasts, with a piece of butter, and it tastes delicious) that I got from the restaurant.
Rye has a lot of health benefits. According to the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, it turns on genes that prevent diabetes, lower cholesterol, reduce inflammation, and improve blood sugar control. Contrarily, the sugary sandwish probably turns on many negative genes that causes many types of diseases and therefore accelerate aging.
Simply by replacing our snacks with healthy alternatives, we keep ourselves healthy, young, and good looking without extra effort. Well, maybe a little effort because I have to make the snacks at home (nuts and seeds are easy to bring along though), instead of eating out, but it is cheaper and healthier.
