How To Get Into Heaven?
Do you want to visit heaven now? Or later?
One can visit heaven and remain alive, by asking God for a heavenly trip. He will most likely answer your request if you pray persistently. After reading the entire Bible, my impression is that God loves to communicate with people who seek after Him. God has no reason to reserve supernatural experience to only a priviledged few. It took me many years to feel comfortable with asking for supernatural experience. It took me that long to learn to become a child again.
As for those who want to go to heaven forever once they cross over, here is your answer. You can go to heaven only by placing your faith in Jesus Christ. What it means is that you accept Him as your savior, and follow Him as your Lord. (John 3:16; Romans 10:10) There is no other way. (Acts 4:11) By accepting Jesus Christ as savior, you no longer rely on anything else, not even good works, because good works are never enough (Epheisans 2:8-9).
To God, everything is far from perfect. It is easy to imagine that we are good people, but even good doctors would misdiagnose and therefore kill their patients. No one fully understand his or her hidden motives, unintended mistakes, the eternal consequences of even a seemingly small sin, and moral blind spots. (Proverbs 14:12) The Bible says all our good works are filthy rags. Only good works that we do by the power of God, through faith, would last. Everything else is less than perfect. In fact, it would be far from perfect if the source is not God. (Isaiah 64:6) By resisting God and His chosen solution for our sinful nature, we chose to remain in a sinful state, which is the ultimate sin (John 3:18). But by receiving Jesus Christ as the Lord and Savor, we are receiving a new life. We become born again as a new creature in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17). As a new creature in Christ, the old things are past, and we are to live a life of faith (Romans 1:17).
Faith isn’t just merely believing in Jesus Christ, but it implies active, consistent reliance on him, the Holy Spirit, and the Heavenly Father each and everyday. It means that we are to obey His commands (John 14:15). If we fail, we must ask for forgiveness, and when we do we must believe that God would immediately forgive us because the blood of Jesus Christ is effective, and that He will help us to live a perfect life (1 John 1:9). We must never rationalize sins away no matter how hard it seems to live a holy life. We must believe that perfection is attainable on earth, because God has already given us a new life in Christ (Matthew 5:48).
Salvation is a free gift, so we don’t earn it. We can never earn our salvation, nor can we change our sinful nature. We receive salvation by grace, through faith, in Jesus Christ. Once we receive salvation by faith, we are to gaurd it dearly with the Holy Spirit. He is our guide and coach. By reading God’s words everyday, the Holy Spirit will be able to work with our memory, to bring into our mind relevant passage(s) of the scripture to guide us and empower us at the right time. It is through the power of the Spirit-illuminated words of God that we continue to transform and become more like Jesus Christ each day. We already have his life as our new life, but we must continue to feed it with the nutritious words of God. God’s words are powerful. It can reprogram our thoughts, and deprogram the dark knowledge, disinformation, and evil programming that the world is continually bombarding us with.
Satan has no power over us if we don’t buy his deceptions. Only God’s words and the help of the Holy Spirit can counter his deceptions. If we get deceived, we may forsake our salvation. For examples, Satan may deceive a Christian into thinking that God won’t forgive him for a particular sin, and if he buys it, you may give up on God, or he might try to convince you that God is not really loving, and use bad things that happen in your life to make you angry with God.
Sin can also deceive us. Small sin or large sin are equally bad. We must repent if we sin. No one can enter heaven with unrepented sins. If a person persists in sinning, that sin will eventually sear his conscience and stifle the works of the Holy Spirit, and he might continue to believe that he still has salvation (1 Timothy 4:2; 1 Thessalonians 5:19). No one can enter heaven while actively sinning (Galatians 6:7-9; 5:19-21).
Sometimes, due to lack of faith, a Christian might struggle with a sinful habit, or addiction. This doesn’t mean the person is not saved, but it means that this person still have stubborn deceptions somewhere within his mind. The deceptions can be so ingrained that they are hard to detect and deprogram. The person will have to continually repent, and trust himself to the Holy Spirit to eventually remove all doubts in him. Once his faith reaches a certain level, the addiction will be no more. Sometimes, demons work closely with a particular bondage of sin, to prevent the victim from freedom. The demons can hide inside the victim, and feverent, persistent prayers are crucial in driving out the demons. The building of faith, and the driving out of demons, are both important in attaining lasting freedom from sins.
The road is narrow and long (Matthew 7:13). It is a lifelong journey. Not everyone who calls Jesus Christ as Lord will enter heaven in the end (Matthew 7:21). Those who want to make it to the end must persevere to the end (Matthew 24:13). It means one must exercise his faith each and everyday.
Faith comes from hearing the words of God (Romans 10:17). As we study and hear the words of God through daily devotion (personal prayers and Bible study), our faith keeps growing. It is also crucial to interact with biblical believers who are committed to Jesus Christ as the Lord and Savor. Together, we function as a church, to encourage and support one another in the journey toward heaven.
Out of a hundred of self-proclaimed Christians, only a handful might be dedicated followers of Jesus Christ. Some Christians might have been genuine once, but are now backsliding. Don’t be disheartened, because these things will happen. Don’t let bad examples cause you to sin. Your soul is infinitely precious. Satan will use different forms of deceptions and attacks to cause you to stray from the narrow path to heaven (Ephesians 6:11-12).
Sometimes the difficulties might be so strong, that one must give up everything to stay true to the Gospel (Luke 14:33). The enemies of God may even resort to murder. One must never denies Jesus Christ no matter what. Men can kill us, but they can never kill your soul (Matthew 10:28).
