Hey Kacey,

Try no-sugar-no-diary diet with her, avoid yeast, refined sugar, pork, and processed foods in general. Give her fishes and other lean proteins. Break her meals into 5 instead of 3 each day. Give her nutritious breakfast.

See that as a fast, except she is not fasting 100%, but fasting from sugars and yeast products. Give her nuts and seeds, the natural ones from health store of course, and make sure you do your research and she is not allergic to the nuts.

There are bunches of supplements and detox agents that could help remove any heavy metal that could cause depression too. Make sure you research them. If she has mercury filling, you want to remove those by the biological dentists.

Next, make sure she exercises at least 3 times a week.

Do what you can to encourage or facilitate a healthy social life for her, in which she would feel appreciated, loved, needed, by her friends or those whom she ministers to.

Give her freedom to apply her skills and passions.

She should start to experience recovery from depression and anxiety, along with problem with procrastination, if things go well. Things will start changing for the better starting around week 2 if the plan is consistently implemented.

These guys are the experts whom I trust, go to: healthwyze.org and drhyman.com

Thank you for what you wrote. You hit the nail on the head with many sections. I have clinical depression, and anxiety problems. I frequent find it's difficult to get motivated to get things done. I also have a 14 year old daughter that has some symptoms of depression and anxiety. She loveto read, but I'm thinking she may be using as a form of escaping her school work and a way to procrastinate. She is a freshman in high school, and "forgetful" when it comes to school work and doing her chores at home. Do you have advice on how I can help her become more responsible and not "forget" todo things she knows she is supposed to do? She is very strong in her faith, active in her youth group at church. She's actually going on a mission trip to Belize in July. It's the daily things at home and school she procrastinates, and forgets to do them without my having to remind her.
I would appreciate any advice you have.

Hey Melody, I would also recommend you read my recent blog entries for my latest experience with health issues that make me sluggish. In fact, I have something called sluggish congitive tempo, aka ADD, and my diet chronicle has my most up to date insights about the biological based laziness.

Wow, I'm truly happy I found this. I have had problems being lazy my whole life. Iv been depressed a lot, I feel guilty when I am confronted about my lazyness. I did all that I thought I could do to change and be productive, but instead I found idle chatter and distractions and procrastination. My husband works nights and I keep the same schedule to be with him, so I sleep while the sun is up and stay awake at night. I feel most of my energy and motivation sets with the sun. I used to drink a gallon and a half of milk a week, eat for the sake of eating. No fresh anythig, its all junk food. I'm trying to change and now because of this article/blog I now know what I can change. Thank you very very much for posting this. May God continue to bless you and your work. I Pray God is with me and gives me the strength to fight off my fears, and to fight that voice that says no matter what it isn't enough or it isn't enoughbto please him. I need this or I will lose my mariage for sure!. Again I thank you for this blog.

Dear Gabby, what you need maybe healing instead of more discipline. Once the biologically caused mind problem is clear, you maybe surprised at how much more you are able to focus. Your description of yourself sounds so much like those who have ADHD. Because of the inability to focus, many ADHD sufferers procrastinate. It is very hard for them to shift from task to task, to start a major task, to complete a task, and to enjoy intensive work. Some people can focus on intensive task for hours because they are healthy. If you sleep poorly, that also indicates that you may have something like ADHD. You also keep running late, which is a symptom of ADHD.

If you are still in school, I advice you to get help from your school. The college usually have on site experts who can diagnose learning disability and other psychological conditions that caused you to be "lazy, slow, and late".

Be careful of their med or prescription though. I would not take any of them even though I myself might have ADHD and will go to get a test soon. I am cutting off sugar, milk, yeast-products, processed foods, rice, white bread... Eat organic, proteins, seeds, and supplements. You may want to go to drhyman.com and healthwyze.org to read more on these conditions.

Thank you for this post. I am probably one of the laziest, slowest, and latest people to ever walk the earth. I am always running late, and I hardly can get myself motivated to do anything it seems. I actually identified with nearly everything that was said, and I know that I must change. I actually stumbled across this blog while procrastinating studying for an exam. I just can't get motivated. I did not know this could be pinned to depression! Does this mean I'm depressed? the entire section for numbers 1,2, and 3 describe me exactly! I always criticize myself and compare myself to others, strive for perfectionism, and put things off because off fear. But how do I change such major parts of myself so fast? I feel like I would have to become another person. I know prayer is powerful and is what I must do... I guess being so lazy, even my prayer life gets put on hold.

anyway, I like your advice about eating and sleeping! I, too, have very poor habits concerning both of these.

Keep letting God use you! You are a light.

Thanks Jenn. I have since learned a lot more about how our biological problems can affect the mind, such as adult ADHD, chronic depression, allergies, mind fogs, and so on. The common things we all need to do is to eat right, know what foods we are allergic to (many people allergic too gluten foods), and that would remove a lot of biological problems that "minic" laziness. It does take some researches, but we Christians have this intense desire to do right, but most of the time most of us can't. If we have the right understanding of our bodies, we will do much better and avoid false guilt.

Ya I recently found out that there were also medical and psychological reasons behind that too. It might not be a migraine, but sometime stress can trigger problems in normal people too. I didn't experienced dizziness and vomiting. But then we all manifest different health issues when under excessive stress.
